Brussels, 12th June 2024

Canadian CMO SOCAN has joined the Independent Music Publishers International Forum’s (IMPF) Friends and Supporters category.

SOCAN is a collective management organisation in Canada representing both the performing and reproduction right. More than 185,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers are its direct members, and more than 100,000 organisations are licensed to play music across Canada.

Launched in 2021, IMPF’s ‘Friends and Supporters’ category is aimed at companies whose mission is to have an open and transparent relationship with the independent music publishing community worldwide, aligned with that of IMPF.

SOCAN Chief Executive Jennifer Brown said: “SOCAN is grateful to be welcomed into the IMPF Friends & Supporters community. We applaud their advocacy efforts, and their fostering of an international music ecosystem where creativity and collaboration are celebrated. The important work of the IMPF provides a united voice for independent music publishers, and ensures they are heard and respected. SOCAN is delighted to support their contributions to our rich global music culture.”

The IMPF Board said: “We welcome SOCAN as a Friend & Supporter of IMPF and our members. Canada boasts an incredibly vibrant and important music market, and SOCAN’s core belief that music has value and that creators and publishers deserve fair compensation for their work is very much aligned with our own central principles and the independent companies we represent. We look forward to working with SOCAN towards those ends.”

IMPF is a network and meeting place for independent music publishers globally. We want to take advantage of the incredible opportunities to have our music on every service, licensed easily and without borders. And most importantly, we want our writers and our companies rewarded fairly for their work.
