British Underground is funded by Arts Council England to support emerging UK talent. The showcases spotlight the importance of vital scenes providing the raw materials that make the UK the most important music tastemaker in the world.  Many of these acts are supported to attend the festival through the International Showcase Fund, a bursary scheme run by PRS Foundation and funded by music industry partners including British Underground.

This showcase series has additional support from UK independent music trade body The Association of Independent Music (AIM). AIM has additionally facilitated international networking opportunities at SXSW for members of the UK independent music community, and helped curate a panel delving into the impacts of streaming reform, featuring speakers from Deezer and global independent music businesses (details here).
